He ventured music in the early 2000s, adapting the stage name Bobi Wine. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu was born on the 12th of February, 1982 in Nkozi Hospital, a private community hospital located at  Nkozi, Mpigi District, in the Central Region of Uganda. He, however, grew up and started his music career in Kamwookya, one of the poorest suburbs of Kampala.
Robert schooled at Kitante Hill School, where he obtained his Uganda Certificate of Education in 1996 before proceeding to the Kololo Senior Secondary School for his Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education.
He further gained admission to study music, dance, and drama at the prestigious Makerere University in Kampala, graduating in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. In 2016, he returned back to the university to obtain a bachelor's degree in law at the International University of East Africa (IUEA). It was while studying at IUEA that Robert got to meet David Lewis Lubongoya, the current people power movement chief executive secretary.

Entertainment Career

Bobi Wine began his music career in the early 2000s. One of the songs that brought him success was 'Sunda', a song he featured another Ugandan singer, Ziggy D. He also released other hit songs like 'Funtula' and 'Akagoma'.
He was the leader of the Fire Base Crew (now disbanded), he further started a new group known as Ghetto Republic of Uganja. Bobi Wine has so far released more than 70 songs since 2000.
One of his songs titled; 'Kiwani' was featured on the soundtrack for the Disney movie Queen of Katwe in 2016.

As an actor, Bobi Wine has starred in a number of movies including Cleopatra Koheirwe's drama film 'Yogera', 'Divizionz' and 'Situka'.

Political Career

Bobi Wine announced his candidacy for parliament in an upcoming by-election for the Kyaddondo East Constituency in 2016. One of the campaign strategies he adapted was a door-to-door walking campaign, which attracted much attention in Uganda and its environs. He won the contest by a wide margin, beating both the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate (Sitenda Sebalu) and Apollo Kantinti of the main opposition party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
On 24 July 2019, Kyagulanyi formally announced his bid to run for President in the 2021 general election.

Personal Life

Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu met his wife, Barbara Itungo, while he was at Makerere University and they got married in 2011. The marriage is blessed with four children, namely; Solomon Kampala Nyanzi, Shalom Namagembe, Shadraq Shilling Mbogo, and Suubi Shine Nakaayi.
