Issues, however, broke out between Umahi and Elechi when the later declared support for Onyebuchi Chukwu, Minister of Health, as his successor.
Fortunately for Umahi, he defeated Onyebuchi Chukwu in the primaries. He was elected as the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State in the 2015 election and re-elected for his second tenure in the 2019 election.
