Kembi, who is also a lawyer and founder of the Kembi-Gitura & Co Advocates has served in several capacities in the Kenyan system. In 2006, he served as the Assistant Minister of Agriculture, before getting appointed as the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs. He also served as the Kenyan Ambassador in Belgium and European Union in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 2009 and 2012.

Kembi Gitura was born on the 21st of November, 1953 in Githaga village, Muranga County. He started his early primary education at AC Forthall Primary School (currently answering Mbiri Primary School) in Muranga Town before proceeding to Muranga High School and later Nyeri High School for his A-level education.
In 1974, he gained admission into the University of Nairobi for his Undergraduate law course, graduating in 1977.


Kembi Gitura on graduating from the law school practised for some time before opening his law firm, the Kembi-Gitura & Co Advocates.
Apart from his law career, below are some of the capacities that Kembi has served in:
• Member of Parliament representing Kiharu Constituency (2003 - 2007)
• Assistant Minister of Agriculture (2006)

Personal Life

Kembi Gitura is married with three grown-up children. Some years back, he was entangled in a legal battle from a paternity case filed in the court against him by one Roy Kiarie who wanted to accept as one of Kembi’s sons. Roy had alleged that the Senator had a relationship with his mother Rachel Njeri Kiarie resulting in his birth.
According to the information, Mr. Roy who was 41 at the period requested for a DNA test to be done to ascertain that Kembi was indeed his biological father. The case was dismissed in 2013 by Justice David Majanja.
