Sadiya Farouq was born on the 5th of November, 1974. She originally hails from Zurmi local government area, Zamfara State. After completing her primary education, Sadiya enrolled at the  Federal Government Girls' College Gusau, Zamfara State for her secondary education.

She further gained admission to study Business Administration at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Kaduna State, graduating in 1998. She also obtained her Master's degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy (2008) and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) (2011) from the same institution.

Career

Sadiya Farouq's relationship with President Buhari dates back to Buhari's days as the leader and presidential candidate of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). Farouq served as the national treasurer of the CPC between 2011 to 2013.

After the merger (between All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)) that gave to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Farouq was appointed as APC's national treasurer in 2013. In 2014, she got another appointment as a member of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council.

She headed the election planning and monitoring, field operations, and fundraising committee making her play a pivotal role in the success of the party in the 2015 general elections.

Sadiya Farouq has also served as the head of the National Commission for refugee, migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

Farouk was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as the minister of humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development in July 2019. She is by age the youngest minister in the current federal cabinet.
