Zainab Ahmed was born on the 16th of June, 1960 in Kaduna State, Nigeria. After completing her elementary education, she enrolled in the Queen Amina College, Kaduna for her secondary education.In 1981, she enrolled for the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), of which she served in Kaduna State. During the one-year service, she was posted for primary assignment to Messrs. Egunjobi Suleiman & Co. Chartered Accountants where she served as an Audit Trainee.
She further gained admission to study Accounting at the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, graduating in 1981. After obtaining her Scc, Ahmed proceeded to Olabisi Onabanjo University for her MBA.
Career
Zainab Ahmed has over 28 years of experience in accounting and public finance management. Upon graduating from the higher institution, she got am employment in 1982 as an Accountant II in the Main Accounts of Ministry of Finance in Kaduna State, four years later, she was promoted to Accountant I. In 1985, she resigned from the job to join Nigerian Telecommunications Ltd (NITEL).Ahmed has served the Nigerian public in various high ranking positions, including as managing director of the Kaduna State of Nigeria’s investment company, and also the chief financial officer of the Nigeria mobile telecommunications company.
Between March 1985 to June 2002, she served at the NITEL, where she was the senior officer (finance) and moved up the level of deputy general manager in charge of corporate treasury until 2002.
In March 2009, Ahmed got an appointment as the managing director of the Kaduna Industrial and Finance Co. Ltd (KIFC);, a position she handled till 2010. She also served as the acting chief finance officer at Nigerian Mobile Telecommunications Ltd (MTEL) between July 2002 to March 2009.
Zainab Ahmed was the immediate past executive secretary and national coordinator of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI). She was also a member of the last two NEITI boards, having worked in the NEITI and global EITI.
