Ifeanyi Okowa was born on the 8th of July, 1959 at Owa-Alero in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State. After completing his primary education, he enrolled at the Edo College, Benin City in 1970 for his secondary education, graduating in 1976.
He further gained admission to study Medicine and Surgery at the prestigious University of Ibadan, where he graduated from in 1981 with an MBBS degree.

Career and Politics

On graduating from the higher institution and completion of his NYSC program, Ifeanyi Okowa started working with the Bendel State Hospitals Management Board as a Medical Officer.
In 1986, he ventured into private practice as the Director, Victory Medical Centre, Igbanke. He went on to open another branch at Boji-Boji, Owa.

Okowa's first step into politics was in 1991 when he got appointed as the Secretary to the Ika Local Government and then Chairman of the Ika North-East Local Government Council, a position he held till 1993.

He served as the Delta North Coordinator of the Grassroots Democratic Movement (GDM) until 1998 when he joined the People's Democratic Party (PDP), assisting in Governor James Ibori's 1998/1999 governorship campaign.

After Governor James Ibori's victor at the polls, he was appointed as the Delta State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources. In April 2001, he got another appointment as the Commissioner for Water Resources Development and then Commissioner for Health (September 2003 – October 2006).

He resigned as Commissioner to contest in the 2007 Delta State PDP governorship primaries but lost to Emmanuel Uduaghan. After the election, Gov. Uduaghan appointed him as the Secretary to the Delta State Government.

In 2011, he contested in the Delta North Senatorial general elections after winning the primaries in a rerun and won with 98,140 votes, ahead of runner up Prince Ned Nwoko of the Democratic People's Party (DPP), who won 67,985 votes.

In the 2011 gubernatorial elections, Okowa got the ticket to run under the PDP platform after polling 406 votes in the primaries which took place on 8 December 2014. He won the 2015 general elections, after polling 728,680 votes. He was re-elected as governor in 2019.

Ifeanyi Okowa is happily married to Dame Edith Okowa, a philanthropist and the founder of 05 Initiative. The marriage is blessed with children, including Marvin Okowa, Marilyn Daramola (nee Okowa) and Mildred Okowa.
