Mohammed Musa Bello was born in 1959 into the family of Alhaji Musa Bello. His father was the Managing Director of Northern Nigeria Development Company and a trusted friend of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He began his primary education in Yola before proceeding to the Our Lady's High School, Kaduna, from where he graduated in 1971. He further enrolled at the prestigious Barewa College in Zaria, graduating in 1976 with a Higher School Certificate.
Alhaji Muhammad Musa Bello is also a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, where he obtained a B.Sc. in Management with a major in Banking and Finance in 1980 as well as an MBA in the same field.

Career

Mohammed Musa Bello's career progression saw him traversing both the private and public sectors of the economy at different times. In 1984, he was hired by ICON Merchant Bank Plc. 
He further spent six months undergoing training at J.P Morgan & Co., in commercial banking and risk management before later becoming the head of credit and marketing. He later left to join the private sector.

Bello spent over twenty years in the corporate sector in various capacities. He was once a Director of Habib Bank Plc and has also worked as a General Manager at the Bakabure Industrial Complex in Yola. He served as the Chairman of the National Hajj Commission (NAHCON) of Nigeria from 2007 to 2015, under former President Olusegun Obasanjo's administration.

In May 2015, he was appointed Minister of Federal Capital Territory by President Muhammadu Buhari and re-appointed in 2019.
