Matthew Ashimolowo Biography, Date Of Birth, Early Life, Family And Education

Matthew Ashimolowo was born on the 17th of March, 1952 to the family of Salau Asimolowo and Aishat Asimolowo in Kaduna State, Nigeria. He was born as the 4th child in a Muslim family of 5 children. His original name was Ahmed, but he later rechristened to Matthew after he got converted to Christianity.

Due to his father's profession in the Nigerian military, Matthew and his siblings had to relocate to from one place to the other. The family also lived in lack, hence he was compelled to hawk things on the street to earn some money.

Growing up, he always wanted to become a soldier just like his Dad, but God had an entirely different plan for him. Following Salau Asimolowo's death in 1974, Matthew switched faiths, converting from Islam to Christianity at the age of 22.

After his conversion, Matthew attended a Bible School in Lagos, from where he joined the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) and a new phase of his life began. He later moved to the Foursquare Gospel Church, where he got appointed as the assistant pastor of the Somolu branch in Lagos.

Foursquare Gospel Church, in a bid to expand to Europe, delegated young Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo to go start up a branch in London in 1992, but he allegedly renamed it to Kingsway International Christian Center (KICC), with him (Pastor Matthew) serving as the General Overseer. This action sparked a lot of controversies, but it's al history now.

The Rise and Rise of Kingsway International Christian Center

Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo started Kingsway International Christian Center in London with only 11 members in a school hall in North London. With time, the membership of the church grew and the church had to move to Hackney town centre after which it acquired a building at Mare Street.

Fast-forward to 2020, Kingsway International Christian Center has grown to thousands of members, with over 12,000 persons worshipping at the KICC permanent site, Chatham, Kent, London.


He is the Founder and C.E.O of 10 profitable companies, including the UK’s first church-owned television channel, KICC TV, which now reaches 140 million homes across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo's weekly telecast, 'Winning Ways' is a source of motivation to many and his daily live broadcast 'Morning Glow' inspires and empowers more than 30,000 people a day via social media.

Pastor Matthew serves on the board of UK’s premier Christian radio station, Premier Radio station. He is also a constant feature on TBN, God Channel TV, Daystar and various TV networks.
