he further gained admission into the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, graduating in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in Law. He was called to bar after finishing from the Law School in Lagos in 1992.
In 1996, Lalong obtained a master's degree in Law from the University of Jos.
Career and Politics
He served as the Deputy Scribe of the Nigerian Bar Association in Plateau State between 1992 and 1994. In 1998, he temporarily discarded legal practice to pursue his political career.
He contested and won the seat of the member of the Plateau State House of Assembly representing his native Shendam Constituency under the People's Democratic Party (PDP).
Simon Lalong further served as the speaker of the assembly between 2000 to 2006. He was the longest-serving speaker of the House in the history of Plateau State.
In 2015, he contested and won the seat as the governor of Plateau State, but this time under the All Progressive Congress (APC) political platform.
He was re-elected as governor on the 23rd of March 2020 after polling 595,582 votes against his closest rival, Gen. Jeremiah Husseini of the PDP who polled 546,813 votes in the Plateau State supplementary Gubernatorial Election. He was re-elected as the governor of Plateau State on May 29, 2019.
