Timipre Sylva is a Nigerian politician who is currently serving as the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources.

Timipre Sylva Biography, Date Of Birth, Early Life, Family And Education

Timipre Sylva was born on the 7th of July, 1964 in Brass, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. After completing his primary and secondary education, he gained admission to study English (Linguistics) at the prestigious University of Port Harcourt (UniPort), graduating in 1986 with a distinction.
Due of Sylva's academic excellence, he was awarded a Doctor in International Relations (Honoris causa) by the UBIS University in 2011.

Political Career

Timipre Sylva began his political career in 1992 after winning a seat to represent the Brass constituency in the House of Assembly election held in the old Rivers State (Bayelsa State was split off from in 1996). As at the time he won the seat at the House of Assembly, Sylva was the youngest among all the members in the house.

In 2004, he got another high position as the Special Assistant to Dr. Edmund Dakouru, the then serving Minister of State for Petroleum, a position he held until 2006 when he resigned to contest in the PDP gubernatorial primaries.

In the 2006 PDP gubernatorial primaries, Sylva emerged second, after Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. He was made the PDP gubernatorial candidate after Goodluck Jonathan got appointed as a running mate to HE Umaru Musa Yar’adua, the former president of Nigeria.

He emerged victorious in the second election, after the court nullified the first gubernatorial election. The nullification came after the Action Congress (AC) candidate, Ebitimi Amgbare legally challenged his victory.

His tenure was terminated on January 27, 2012 by the Supreme Court with Nestor Binabo appointed to oversee the state as the acting governor until the election of February 2012.

Timipre Sylva was on the 21st of August, 2019, appointed as the Nigerian Cabinet Minister of State for Petroleum Resources.

Timipre Sylva is happily married to Alanyingi Sylva and the marriage is happily blessed with three loverly children, namely Taria, Timipre and Pagabio.
