Enyinnaya Abaribe Biography, Date Of Birth, Early Life, Family And Education

Enyinnaya Abaribe was born on the 1st of March, 1955 in Abia State, Nigeria. After completing his elementary education, he enrolled at the Government College Umuahia for his secondary education, earning his WASSCE in 1974.
He proceeded to the prestigious University of Benin, where he received a bachelor's degree economics in 1979 and a master's degree in economics in 1982.

Career and Politics

After completing his NYSC program, Enyinnaya Abaribe started lecturing at Edo State University. In 1985, he left Edo State University for SCOA where he served as Nigeria's area manager for Southern Nigeria until 1991. Between 1991 to 1992, he was employed as Nicon's senior manager for investment. In 1993, he started serving as the CEO of Integrated Mortgage Co, a position he held till 1995.

Enyinnaya Abaribe emerged as the Orji Uzor Kalu's running mate in the 1999 election to the Governorship and subsequently, the Abia State governor after Kalu won the election. During his tenure as the Deputy Governor, the Abia State House of Assembly impeached him twice in 2000 and a third time in 2003.

On March 7, 2003, as he was facing the third impeachment, he resigned as Deputy Governor, sending his resignation via DHL so as to have written record of it. Several days later, he was formally voted out of office by the House of Assembly, a move he described as 'medicine after death'. He was succeeded deputy governor by Eric Acho Nwakanma. In 2003, he ran for Abia State governorship under the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) platform but lost Kalu.

In 2007, Enyinnaya Abaribe was elected as the senator representing the Abia-South Senatorial District of Abia State in the Senate of Nigeria after contesting on a PDP ticket. In 2011, he was re-elected as a senator. He is also the current chairman Senate Committee on Media and Publicity.

He was re-elected to the Nigerian 8th Senate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2015 and is currently representing the people of Abia South Senatorial District in the upper chamber. He was on the 13th of June, 2019 appointed as the Minority leader of the Senate.

Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe is happily married to Florence Nwamaka and the union is blessed with three Children; Chinonyerem Alali, Obinna Ikechukwu and Ikenna Enyinnaya Nwabueze. Florence was in 2018, sworn in as the Permanent Secretary in the State Civil Service.
