When talking about population, it is also home to 17% of the world's population. Out of this, Nigeria represents about 20 per cent of the total population of sub-Saharan Africa. In a continent of 54 countries, one shouldn't be surprised that a country that represents about 20% of the population is called 'the Giant'.

• Lagos is the most populous city in Nigeria and the second-largest city in Africa (after Cairo, Egypt). It is home to many businesses and has been described as one of the busiest city on the continent.
• Nigeria appeared fifth in the africa-facts.org's list of the 10 most powerful militaries in Africa.

• Nigeria is among the few African nations that manufacturers locally. The rest include the likes of Kenya, Ghana and South Africa.
• The Nigerian entertainment industry is currently the number on the continent. The likes of Davido, Burna Boy and Wizkid have done well in taking Afro-beat music globally.
• Nigeria launched its first earth observation satellite, NigeriaSat-1, in September 2003, becoming the first African nation to launch a space satellite. We have so far, launched four satellites into space, with three still operational and one deorbited after completing its objectives.
