Great Classic Games You Can Play On Your Smartphone

There are many great new games released almost every day, some based on completely new concepts and ideas, others borrowing from a tried and tested format. Many get launched with a lot of fanfare as publishers exhaust their huge marketing budgets in an effort to sell more copies.

For example, the recent release of Cyberpunk 2077 was hyped up right across the internet, on social media, in gaming publications, and even in offline advertising. We saw something similar early last year with the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, a title that’s gone on to become one of the best-selling video games of all time.

But sometimes we don’t need new and fancy titles. Sometimes, classic games can be just as fun as new releases, or even more so. They can also help us reminisce about the times we enjoyed playing them in the past.

There are plenty of classic games available through emulators and ROMS, but it’s much easier to play them on your smartphone, letting you take the fun with you wherever you go.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3

The RollerCoaster Tycoon franchise has, unfortunately, gone downhill a little in recent years. Several releases have been widely criticised by fans for straying too far away from the original concept, for being buggy, or riddled with microtransactions.

However, that doesn’t mean they can’t enjoy playing the classic RollerCoaster Tycoon games that helped to create so many loyal fans.

For around $5, you can download the full version of RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 for iOS or Android. That makes it much cheaper than the PC version which is around three times the price

You’ll spend hours designing your own custom roller coasters and managing your own theme parks. Most crucially, RCT 3 is the first game in the series you can ride the coasters for yourself, a feature that roller coaster enthusiasts will rave about.

Roulette

In French, the name roulette means “little wheel” which is actually a pretty good description. It’s a game that has been enjoyed for several centuries in gaming establishments right across the world, including in many online and mobile casinos.

As its name suggests, roulette involves a little wheel that contains 37 or 38 pockets, each with its own number. These numbers correspond with a grid drawn on a table, with players placing bets on a number, group of numbers, or colour contained in the grid.

The game’s dealer then spins the wheel and a ball in opposite directions. As the ball loses momentum it falls into one of the wheel’s pockets, with any corresponding bets paying out.

Today, roulette can be played on both iOS and Android devices with many apps offering their own unique versions like live roulette and Multi-Player roulette, as well as both European and American variants.

Grand Theft Auto Vice City

When it was released in 2002, Grand Theft Auto Vice City became an instant hit. The open-world format was still something of a novelty at the time and the bright neon colours that Vice City offered players were enticing.

For the 10 year anniversary of the game’s initial release, Rockstar Games released a remastered version for iOS and Android, allowing players explore to Downtown and Vice Beach all over again but with the freedom to do it from anywhere they liked.

One of the standout things people loved most about Vice City was the way it captured the entire 1980s music scene, with everything from synth-pop to gangster rap. Most of the original soundtrack remained in the mobile version’s radio stations when it was first released, though some songs have since been replaced in an update due to licensing changes.

Some other changes have taken out some of Vice City’s most frustrating features. For example, if you’re busted or wasted, you no longer lose your huge arsenal of weapons. The price of most properties is also lower, making it easier to purchase the assets you need to progress in the storyline.
