Daniel Benson (Buju) was born on the 19th of May, 1997 in Akwa Ibom, but he spent his childhood days in Gbagada. Though not from the Southwestern part of the country, Buju learnt how to speak the Yoruba language at a very early age.
Buju started writing music while in junior secondary school with the name 'Drizzle'. He later adopted the name 'Buju', which later became his official stage name. Just like many other talented artists, Buju started off in the church choir and then began performing solo at valedictory services.
He then carried his passion to the university and the rest became history. Buju revealed that he was inspired by the likes of Buju Banton, J Hus, Damian Marley and Burna Boy.
