The BLS recommends you check out the college you plan to attend, as some prepare you for immediate entry into the job market, and others prepare you for graduate school in engineering. Be sure that your college of choice meets your education and career goals.

Software engineers develop the programs that run the hardware components. They also develop other programs that make the computer a useful tool for workplace and personal use. It takes a good combination of science, engineering and math to develop useful software programming. There are a number of different programming languages, a general understanding of the different languages which can direct a computer is important, but many software engineers or designers concentrate on one or two computer languages that are essential to the types of programming they will be working with.
