Inasmuch as not everyone gets lucky enough in Visa applications, so many people in their thousands are annually lucky enough to get successful Visas to the North American country.
There are a good number of things you need to put into consideration when applying, especially to increase your chances of approval. Aside that, you should also be familiar with some things concerning your Visa application, such as the duration, addresses of the embassies and things like that.

How To Apply For The Canadian Visa In Nigeria

Canadian Visa applications need to be submitted online through the IRCC online application system, or you can go through the VFC Global Canadian Visa Application Centers in Abuja or Lagos.
Before you apply, I advise you check your eligibility status first to avoid any unnecessary rejections.

The processes we'd be discussing are applicable to Nigerian passport holders. You can always check the official website for more information regarding this cause.
There are several types of Visas which you can apply for such as the Visitor Visa (also called Temporary Resident Visa), the Student Visa, and the Work Visa.
A Visitor Visa may be a single entry or  a multiple entry. A single-entry Visa will allow you visit Canada once and is valid for up to six months from your arrival date.
A multiple-entry Visa is valid for up to 10 years and will allow you stay in Canada for six months.

Processing Time For Canadian Visas

The processing time for Canadian Visas may take up to 30 days depending on the types of applications you submitted, and the number of applicants at that particular time.
You can also receive it via a courier service or from the Visa Application Center in which you applied in.

Canadian Visa Fees

The Canadian Visa fees vary and depend on whether you pay in person at a Visa application center or online.
The payments are made in Naira and subject to change and there are generally two types of fees, a biometric fee and an application processing fee.
The estimated fees when applying in person and paying online:
• Biometrics – about ₦24,000 (about $66) and it will be per person
• Processing fee – about ₦28,000 (about $77)

Estimated fees when applying through the VFS Global Visa Application Center:
• Biometrics – about ₦24,000 (about $66) and it will be per person
• Processing fee – about ₦28,000 (about $77)
• Service charge – about ₦17,000 (about $47)

Canadian Visa Requirements

Some of the things that would be required from you in the process of applying for Visa include:
• A completed Visitor Visa (IMM 5257) form and a completed Family Information (IMM 5645) form
• An original copy of your Nigerian passport and it needs to be valid for at least six months beyond your day of return with a minimum of two blank pages
• Two color photographs that meet the requirements [see HERE]
• Proof of your application processing fees and biometric fee (if applicable)
• Proof of your bank statement, to make sure you have sufficient funds for the duration of your trip
• If it is a sponsored trip, you will need to provide a letter form your sponsor showing they have enough funds to carter for the trip
• Evidence of your ties to Nigeria ie proof of businesses or assets, employment letter, etc
• You may need to provide your medical history
• Copy of  travel itinerary (i.e. accommodation reservations) and provisional flight booking
• Minors travelling alone will need to provide letter of authorization from both parents or guardians showing their approval. If they are travelling with one parent, they will need to provide a letter of authorization from the other one.
• A self-addressed return courier envelope
• Previous passports that show your travel history
• Any additional documents to support your application ie invitation letter, marriage certificates
• If you are travelling for business or visiting a friend, you will need an invitation letter detailing the nature of your visit, details of the host or business and length of stay.

NOTE: Paper photographs are not required if you will  need to supply biometrics. You can also check for more details concerning the Visitor Visa HERE. The required documents may vary if you are applying through the VFS Global.

Where To Apply For The Canadian Visa In Nigeria

As I have earlier said, you can either chose to apply online or through a VFS Global Application Center.
The later is recommended if you have the option.

When applying online, you will need to scan the documents and then pay the charges online with your credit card.

Getting To The Application Centers And Parking Options

There are provisions for parking your vehicle(s) at the various Visa application centers, but you can preferably use the taxis and buses available.

Courier Service

Once your Visas and passports are ready for collection, you can do that yourself or make use of a courier service which would be paid for in the course of your application.

If you are collecting it yourself, you will need the following:
• Your original identity card (any official proof of identification)
• A copy of your photographic ID
• The application checklist that was provided to you by VFS Global when you submitted your application

How To Apply For A Canadian Visa Online

Whether you are applying through a Visa application center or through the IRCC online application system, you'd need to:
• Download the Visitor Visa (IMM 5257), the Document Checklist and the Family Information (IMM 5645) forms.
• Fill out your application forms and then you gather all your supporting documents as I already listed above
• Complete the VFS consent form if applicable
• Pay the Visa application fees
• Pay the service charges and obtain a receipt with a unique tracking number which you will use to track your application online
• Submit your application to your local Visa Application Center

NOTE: If you're unable to provide any of the supporting documents, you will need to complete a waiver form or risk being denied of your Visa.

Printing And Photographs

These are available at the VFS Global application centers for an additional fee.
The photography services cost about ₦2,340 per applicant while the photocopy services cost about ₦40 per page.
