Monica Dongban Mensem was born on the 13th of June, 1957 into the family of M. B. Douglas-Mensem, a retired Appeal Court Justice. She hails from Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State.
On completing her primary and secondary education, Dongban Mensem gained admission into the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, from where she got both her LL.B and LL.M degrees.
After that, she proceeded to the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies in London where she then studied for a postgraduate diploma.

Career

From 1988-1992, Monica Dongban Mensem was a Visiting Lecturer on Press Law at the Catholic Media Centre, Kaduna and Part-time Lecturer at the University of Jos between 1989 and 1997.

From 1990-1993, she served as the Deputy Chief Registrar, Superior Courts and Protocol Affairs and was appointed Judge, High Court of Justice, Plateau Judiciary from 1993-1996.

On transfer from the former, Dongban-Mensem became the Judge, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Judiciary from 1997-2003.

On 5 March 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Dongban-Mensem as acting president of the Court of Appeal, after the retirement of Zainab Bulkachuwa.

Personal Life

After Justice Monica Dongban Mensem first son, Prince Samson Kwapda’as Dongban died in a roads accident, she founded a road safety organisation called Kwapda’as Road Safety Demand (KRSD).
Right now, she is a mother of four children and two grandchildren.

Her leisure is writing, reading, golfing working with children, women and the elderly.
