Seyi Makinde is a Nigerian businessman, philanthropist and politician who is currently serving as the Executive Governor of Oyo State.
Prior to becoming the governor, Makinde worked as an engineer and a subject matter expert on fluid and gas metering. He established his first oil and gas private business, Makon Engineering and Technical Services (METS), an indigenous oil and gas in 1997. He was also the Group Managing Director of Makon Group Limited till August 2018.

Seyi Makinde was born on the 25th of December, 1967 Oja’ba, Ibadan. He is the third child of his parents,  late Pa Olatubosun Makinde and Madam Abigail Makinde. He began his early primary education at St Michael Primary School, Yemetu, Ibadan before enrolling into Bishop Phillips Academy, Monatan for his secondary education.
He further gained admission to the University of Lagos in 1985, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.

In 1998, Makinde enrolled for training on Safety Shutdown System at Industrial Control Services in Houston, Texas. A year later, he also passed through training on Development of Analytical Competence for Managing Operations at Pan-Atlantic University.
In 2000, he trained on Automation, followed by Fundamentals of Crude Sampling at Jiskoot Auto Control Training Centre, Kent, England in 2002.
In 2005, Seyi Makinde also studied Understanding and Solving Complex Business Problems at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA.

Career And Politics

Seyi Makinde's first step into the career world was during his NYSC days, which he did at the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) of Nigeria. He served in different capacities; handling and partaking in several key projects between 1990 and 1992.
In 1992, he started working as a field engineer for Rebold International Limited, and in 1995, he got appointed as the field manager of the same company.

He established his first business, Makon Engineering and Technical Services Limited (METS) in 1997 after working with several oil companies for over 5 years. He served as the Group Managing Director of Makon Group of companies until 2018.

Seyi Makinde is a member of national and international professional bodies, including the Council for Regulations of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), International Society of Automation (ISA), Oil and Gas Design Engineers of Nigeria (OGDEN), American Measurement Institute (AMI) and Institute of Measurement and Control UK.

Political career

Seyi Makinde's political career hasn't always been rosy, but his persistence brought him to where he is now. In 2007, he contested for the Oyo South Senatorial seat under the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) but lost to the Kamoru Adedibu of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). In 2010, he ran again for the same position but lost the primary to the incumbent.
In 2014, Seyi Makinde aimed for the Oyo State 2015 governorship ticket under the PDP platform but was denied the governorship nomination ticket.
In the quest to win the 2015 Oyo State gubernatorial election, he defected and contested under the Social Democratic Party (SDP) platform. He lost at the end.
In 2017, he ran decided to return back to the PDP after the Caretaker National Chairman of the party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi visited him in Ibadan. He aimed for the party's gubernatorial ticket and emerged candidate of the party after polling 2772 votes at the primary election that took place at Liberty Stadium, Oke Ado in Ibadan.
He was elected governor of Oyo State after polling 515, 621 votes at the elections which took place on March 9th, 2019. His closest rival was APC's Adebayo Adelabu, who polled 357,982 votes. 
Seyi Makinde was sworn in as the 28th executive Governor of Oyo State on 29th May 2019. He took over from Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
