Festus Keyamo was born on the 21st of January, 1970, to Pa Matthias Keyamo and Caroline Abeni Keyamo in Ughelli, Delta State, Nigeria. His father hails from Uvwie L.G.A, near Warri, in Delta State while his mother hails from Yewa South L.G.A in Ogun State and Festus was the third child and first son in a family of seven children.
He had his early primary education at Oharisi (Model) Primary School, Ughelli before enrolling into Government College, Ughelli where he also completed his HSC course.
In 1988, Keyamo gained admission through JAMB to study Law at Bendel State University, (now Ambrose Alli University (AAU)) Ekpoma, in Edo State, graduating with an LL.B degree (Second Class Upper) in 1992. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in December 1993.
After a while, he proceeded to the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in the United Kingdom where he qualified as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK).

Career

Festus Keyamo started his legal practice in Gani Fawehinmi Chambers in Lagos State, southwestern Nigeria. In 1995, he left Gani Fawehinmi Chambers in 1995 to establish his own firm, Festus Keyamo Chamber. Festus Keyamo Chamber has over the years, grown rapidly with three offices in Delta State, Lagos State and Abuja Federal Capital Territory, plus liaison offices in many states with over 23 lawyers and more than 30 para-legal staff.

In 2008, Festus Keyamo took the Federal Government of Nigeria to court over illegal appointments of service chiefs.

In 2017, Stephanie Otobo, a Canadian-based singer and stripper, accused Nigerian televangelist and the senior pastor and general overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International, Apostle Suleman Johnson, of failing to keep a marriage promise made to her after allegedly having several sexual relationships with her. The case was filed through her lawyer, Festus Keyamo.

Festus Keyamo is also a lawyer to popular Nigerian musical Duo of Psquare. He was in fact, in the middle of the controversial video that went viral some years ago, showing the two brothers insulting each another and exchanging blows.

Prior to his appointment as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Festus Keyamo was one of the private prosecuting counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

On August 2019, Festus Keyamo was appointed as Nigeria’s Minister of State, for Niger Delta, a position he handled until September 2019 when he was redeployed to Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Personal Life

Festus Keyamo got married to his wife, Mrs. Isioma Irene Keyamo on May 2004 in Benin City. The union which lasted only for six years produced two children, namely; Nicole Keyamo and Festus Keyamo Jnr.
On April 2010, Keyamo instituted a divorce suit against his wife. In his petition, he alleged that the marriage had broken down irreparably. He alleged that his wife is foul-mouthed, absolutely irresponsible, ill-tempered and cannot cook.

Awards and Recognitions

Festus Keyamo has earned numerous awards from several communities and organizations in recognition of his noble gestures and good governance. Some of them include:
• Global Human Rights Award by the United States Global Leadership Council in Washington (2017)
• Defender of Press Freedom Award from the Nigeria Union of Journalists (2018)
• In 2011, he was conferred with the chieftaincy title of Omorokaro of Uvwie Kingdom (The child who leads the way) in Delta State
• In 2005, he was conferred with the chieftaincy title of Ogba-uri of Ogor Kingdom (Strong man of the law) 
• Listed in the New Who is Who in Nigeria (2003)
• Honorary Alumni of various Students’ Associations; Activist of the year by the Students Union, University of Jos (2001)
