Toke Makinwa was born on the 3rd of November, 1984 in Lagos State, Nigeria as the second child in a family of four children. She lost both of her parents to a fire accident when she was 8 years old.
After completing her primary education, she enrolled at the Federal Government Girls' College, Oyo State where she obtained her Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).
Toke further gained admission to study English and literature at the University of Lagos, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Career
In 2010, she started her career as a radio OAP on The Morning Drive show on 93.7FM. The same year, she launched her late-night talk show, Rhythms of the Night.
Two years after joining 93.7FM, Toke premiered her YouTube vlog series, 'Toke Moments'. The show, which allowed her fans to see news sides of her really won the hearts of Nigerians and helped increase her success as an entertainer. She has so far, garnered over 60,000 subscriber son YouTube.
In 2014, she signed a multi-million Naira contract with Nestlé Nigeria to become the new face of Maggi.
In 2016, Toke Makinwa signed another endorsement deal with Mecran Cosmetics. She was also an ambassador for Ciroc and Payporte.

Just like many other Nigerian celebrities, Toke Makinwa's lifestyle haven't been free of controversies. For instance, her before and after photos have garnered numerous reactions from Nigerian social media users, especially because of the obvious changes in complexion. The media personality later stated that her reason for bleaching was to bring light to her journey. She also cited that her ex-husband Maje Adiya had a preference for light-skinned girls, so she bleached to impress him.
In 2018, she took another controversial step by partnering with Buluwa Inc. to launch a skin lightening product line called 'Glow by TM.' In an interview with BN Style about her product, she said that;
“...Glow by TM is a skincare line targeted at every woman of color and women who seem to struggle with dark spots, melasma, uneven skin tone and are looking for the perfect shade for their skin…. Personally, I don’t think self-betterment equals self-hate. There are a lot of light-skinned women who tan all day, looking to get a shade or two darker too. Why don’t we have the same conversations when the case is the reverse.”
Another source of controversy was over her alleged relationship with Nigerian billionaire, Festus Fadeyi. According to the information which has been trending online, the OAP's Banana Island apartment was confiscated by the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON). This was in the corporation's bid to recover the debts owed by Dr. Festus Fadeyi, the Chairman/Managing Director of Pan Ocean Oil Corporation (Nigeria) Limited.

Toke Makinwa got married to Maje Ayida the CEO of Eden Lifestyle on 15th January 2014 after dating for over 8 years. The couple separated in 2015 after Toke discovered that he had impregnated his ex-girlfriend. Anita Solomon.
The marriage was officially dissolved on the 5th of October, 2017 by a Lagos High Court on the grounds that Ayida committed adultery.
In another news, Solomon revealed in a Lagos High Court on March 1, 2019, that she got pregnant for Maje exactly six months after the couple had signed a legal document certifying their separation.
