Geoffrey Onyeama Biography, Date Of Birth, Age, Early Life, Family And Education

Geoffrey Onyeama was born on the 2nd of February, 1956 into the family of Charles Onyeama of Enugu State, Nigeria. His father was a Nigerian jurist, who served as Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria from 1964 to 1967. Geoffrey is the third child of his mother, Susan but the fourth child of his family. Charles has a child named Warrick with a British woman.
Geoffrey Onyeama after completing his primary and secondary education proceeded to the Columbia University, New York from where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) degree in Political Science, after which he obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) degree in Law from St John's College, Cambridge.

He also holds a Masters of Law (LL.M) from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a Masters of Arts (M.A) in Law from St John's College, Cambridge. In 1983, Onyeama was admitted as a Barrister-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and was also called to the English Bar of the Grey's Inn in 1981.

Career

Between 1983 and 1984, Geoffrey Onyeama worked as a Research Officer in the Nigerian Law Reform Commission Lagos. In 1984, upon leaving the Nigerian Law Reform Commission, he started working as a lawyer with Mogboh and Associates in Enugu, Nigeria until 1985 when he joined the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). 

At WIPO, Onyeama as an Assistant Programme Officer for Development Cooperation and External Relations, Bureau for Africa and Western Asia. He quickly rose through the ranks at the WIPO to become Deputy Director-General for the Development Sector in 2009. 

He was appointed Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs by President Muhammadu Buhari in November 2015.
