Before we proceed with the biography and profile, Joy Nunieh, the immediate past Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has been releasing some series of allegations against Godswill Akpabio, the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and the current serving Minister for Niger Delta Affairs.
In one of the allegations, she laid claims that she was the only woman in Nigeria to slap Akpabio. According to her, the former governor allegedly wanted to take (sexual) advantage of her. DailyPost.ng also reported about how Miss Joy Nunieh alleged that Sen. Akpabio wanted her to take a blood oath of secrecy in Abuja.
In another report, she alleged that the headquarters of the agency is unconnected to the public power supply because Godswill Akpabio's girlfriend supplies the diesel for generators. Miss Nunieh released the information an Arise TV programme anchored by Reuben Abati. Dr Nunieh further called on the Nigerian Police to investigate Sen. Akpabio
Sen. Akpabio, on the other hand, while reacting to a previous allegation against him by Nunieh, said the former NDDC MD has a character problem. He also said that he has instructed his lawyers to seek necessary redress in a court of competent jurisdiction on his behalf over the defamatory statements made by the former acting managing director
Meanwhile, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to, within 14 days, set up a presidential panel to probe corruption allegations in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
About Joy Nunieh
• Dr Joi Yimebe Nunieh was born on the 11th of November, 1963 into the family of Late Sen. Cyrus Nunieh from Beeri, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.• Joy Nunieh's Dad, Late Sen. Cyrus Nunieh was the first lawyer in the whole of Ogoni Land. He also served as the senator in charge of the Rivers South-East Senatorial District. He died in 2018.
• She is an indigene of Rivers State, Nigeria. This was the exact reason why Gov. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike came to her rescue when the police invaded her Port Harcourt, Rivers state home. In a statement from the state government, it was noted that the Rivers State Government isn't interested in the drama unfolding in the NDDC and will never support any action that will jeopardize the laudable intentions of President Buhari to positively reposition the NDDC and fulfil the yearnings and aspirations the Niger Delta people.
The statement further stressed that Rivers State owes it as a duty to protect her citizens from danger no matter their political affiliations and that it will not fail to protect their daughter, Joi Nunieh from actual harm or perceived danger.
• Prior to her joining the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Joi served as the National Coordinator of Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project, (HYPREP).
HYPREP was established under the Federal Ministry of Environment to achieve the under listed objectives in Ogoniland and other impacted communities:
- Determining the scope, means and modalities of remediation of soil and groundwater contamination in impacted communities as may be recommended by HYPREP Governing Council and remedy them
- Enhancing local capacity for better environmental management and promote awareness of sound environmental management as well as ensure livelihoods and sustainable development
- Ensuring security and promote peacebuilding efforts in impacted communities
- Strengthening governance, transparency and accountability in the region.
• Not much is known about Joi Nunieh's p[personal life but she is being addressed as Miss in the various news channels, so we might not be wrong to assume that she's currently not married.
Sen. Akpabio, while reacting to an interview on Arise TV, insisted that Joy Nunieh has character issue. He also challenged the interviewer to bring in the former NDDC Acting MD's '4 husbands' who she allegedly divorced, to corroborate his claim. source
