Theophilus Danjuma Biography, Date Of Birth, Early Life, Family And Education

Theophilus Danjuma was born on the 9th of December, 1938 in Takum, Taraba State into the family of Kuru Danjuma and Rufkatu Asibi. His father, Kuru was a farmer who also traded in metal parts for farming implements and tools. He was a  hardworking peasant whose ancestors were all highly respected members of the community.
Danjuma started his early primary education at St Bartholomew's Primary School in Wusasa before proceeding to the Benue Provincial Secondary School, Katsina-Ala for his secondary education. While at Benue Provincial Secondary School, he was the captain of the school cricket 1st XI team.
He enrolled at the Ahmadu Bello University (former Nigerian College of Arts, Science, and Technology) in 1959, a year after receiving his Higher School Certificate. He left university to enrol in the Nigerian Army.

Army Career 

Theophilus Danjuma was commissioned into the Nigerian Army as second-lieutenant and platoon commander in the Congo. In 1963, he joined the peace-keeping forces in Katanga Province, one of the Congo regions. Three years later, he got involved in the Nigerian Counter-Coup of 1966 with the 4th Battalion in Mokola, Ibadan.
A year after the counter-coup, he got two promotions, first to lieutenant colonel and second he was appointed as the Commander of the Nigerian Army's 1st Infantry Brigade, a position he held till July 1968.
In 1970, he got appointed as a tribunal president in a case brought against members of a failed coup attempt in Trinidad and Tobago. He was the official representative of Nigeria at the International Court Martial in Trinidad and Tobago.
In 1975, he was promoted to Brigadier and the position of General Officer Commanding (GOC). The following year, he became the Chief of Army Staff to Olusegun Obasanjo, the then Head of State. He retired from the Nigerian army in 1979.

Political Career

In 1999, Theophilus Danjuma was appointed as Minister of Defence to President Olusegun Obasanjo's cabinet. In 2003, he got another appointment as Chairperson for the investigative committee on the Warri conflict
During Goodluck Jonathan's tenure, he got nominated as Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Council.
