Godfrey Baguma was born in 1973 as the only child of his parents. According to a report by thesun.co.uk, after his birth, his mother left him after saying that he wasn't a normal child. His grandmother started taking care of him from then.Godfrey Baguma came to the limelight after winning a competition to find Uganda's most unusual looking man in 2002. While he was mending shoes in his shop, some people approached him and said they had an event at which they wanted him to be a chief guest.
They further took his photos, while telling him to strike several poses, including raising up his hands like a victor.
He further contested for the position, after the people convinced him that he was the ugliest person alive and won. His victory earned him the nickname, Ssebabi, which means the ugliest of them all.
