Mutahi Kagwe was born in 1958 into the family of Kagwe Mutahi. He had his primary education at Kihate Primary School (1965- 1971) before proceeding to the Kagumo High School (1972- 1977) - both O levels and A levels.
In 1978, he gained admission to study Insurance at the prestigious University of Nairobi, graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce (Insurance) degree in 1981. He also holds an MBA from the United States International University (USIU). 


Mutahi Kagwe served as the fifth Member of Parliament for Mukurweini Constituency, Nyeri Kenya between 2002 - 2007. During his tenure at the Parliament, he served as the Chair of Parliamentary Committee on Finance, Trade, Tourism, and Planning, before his appointment as a Cabinet Minister for Information and Communications, Mukurweini Constituency.
He was very active in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic in Kenya. His efforts, amid countless domestic and local challenges, earned him international recognition in the Wall Street Journal.

Personal Life

Mutahi Kagwe is happily married to Ann Wanjiku Mutahi. Mrs Ann is an accomplished financial expert who has worked with several business firms in the last 20 years. She is also President Uhuru Kenyatta’s key advisor on Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).
The marriage is blessed with four children; Kagwe, Njoroge, Nyawira and Kahumburu.
