Sharon Ikeazor Biography, Date Of Birth, Early Life, Family And Education

Sharon Ikeazor was born on the 28th of August, 1961 into the family of Chimezie Ikeazor (SAN). Her father (late) Chimezie Ikeazor was the founder of the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Free Legal Aid for the Poor in Nigeria.
After completing her primary education at St. Mary's Convent School, Lagos, she enrolled at the prestigious Queen of The Rosary College, Onitsha for her secondary education.
She further travelled to England, where she obtained her GCE A’ levels at Godolphin School, Salisbury, England. Sharon returned to Nigeria to complete her Higher Studies at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1981.
In 1984, she graduated from the University of Benin with a Bachelor of Law degree (LL.B Hons.). A year later, she was called to bar after finishing from the Law School in Lagos.

Career and Politics

Before establishing her own law firm in 1994, Sharon Ikeazor had already worked with a variety of national and international banks; Nerderlansce Middenstandbank, Midas Merchant Bank and the Nigerian Merchant Bank. She also worked at Shell Petroleum as a company lawyer.

In 1999, she served as the legal secretary and project coordinator for Fluor Daniel Nigeria Ltd, a subsidiary of the also-named US Engineering Firm.

Between 2003 to 2008, she served as the Vice President for Business Development and Government Relations for the United States Consulting firm, Good Works International (GWI) Consulting.

Before venturing into politics in 2011, Sharon Ikeazor eventually served as a legal representative for Aso Energy Resources, Ltd, Abuja for two years (between 2008-2010).

In 2011, she contested and won the position of National Women leader of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) Party. Upon the 2013 merger that gave birth to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sharon emerged the Interim National Women leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC). She handled the position until 2014 when she got appointed to the APC Board of Trustees in 2014.

In 2016, she emerged APC Senatorial Candidate for Anambra Central Zone. On Wednesday, August 21, 2019, she was appointed by President Buhari as the Minister of State Environment.

Personal Life and Charity

Not much is known about Sharon Ikeazor's personal life, but she still goes by her maiden name, Ikeazor. Her late father, Chimezie Ikeazor (SAN) was the founder of the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Free Legal Aid for the Poor in Nigeria. 
The organisation which she now oversees provides reimbursements for legal services offered to under-served citizens living below the poverty line. Similarly, she runs a prison outreach program that pays the fines of those awaiting trial as well as providing free legal representation for some of the inmates.
Sharon also founded The Wakiliyan Mata Empowerment Initiative, an NGO for Internally Displaced Women, which avails them of interest-free loans to start small scale businesses.
