Sunday Dare was born on the 29th of May, 1966 in Plateau State, Nigeria. After completing his primary education, he enrolled at the Baptist High School in Jos for his secondary education. He further proceeded to the Oyo State College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife, Nigeria for an Advanced Level education.

For his university education, Dare gained admission into the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, graduating in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) honours in International Studies. He thereafter proceeded to the University of Jos, where he obtained a Master of Arts (MA) in Law and Diplomacy.

Sunday Dare has also at different times been an Oxford University, United Kingdom Research Fellow; Harvard Nieman Journalism Fellow; and New York University Freedom Forum Fellow.     

Career

Sunday Dare has worked in diverse aspects of the media for more than 25 years. He has worked with the TV, radio, print and electronic media. He has worked as a correspondent with several foreign publications including The Nation magazine in New York. He also worked with the European backed Fourth Estate magazine as a production editor during the military interregnum in Nigeria among others.

He was also the Convener of the Social Media Clinic (SMC), a Media/Information Technology (New Media) initiative. He set up the program with the goal of providing information as well as educating private citizens on IT development and sensitising the members of the public on the usage of new media as a tool for building responsive society.

During Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu's tenure as Lagos State Governor, Sunday Dare served his Chief of Staff / Special Adviser on media.

Dare had also previously served as the Chief, Hausa Service, African Division of the Voice of Nigeria (VOA) in Washington, DC for over nine years (2001 to 2009).

In 2009, he was appointed Senior Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister of Information and Communications.

In 2016, he was appointed as Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). 

In 2019, Sunday Dare was appointed as the Minister of Youth and Sports Development by Muhammadu Buhari, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Sunday Dare is happily married to Mrs Olukemi Dare and the marriage is blessed with children.
