Margaret Wanjiru was born on the 22nd of December 1961 in Nairobi, the capital and the largest city of Kenya. Being the third child in a very poor family of casual workers, she was faced with several challenges that come with poverty. Despite the struggles, her mother was able to put her through both primary and high school.Margaret on her own side worked very hard in the pursuit of a better future. In fact, by the time she was 17 years old, she was already paying her way through college by engaging in numerous jobs. She worked as a hawker, toilet cleaner, car cleaner, office cleaner and housegirl. She earned herself a position as a salesgirl on her graduation from college.
She has a Doctorate in Divinity excelling in the matters of religion, education and human sciences. Recently, she also obtained a certificate on governance from the prestigious Harvard University, USA.
Her determination to succeed, coupled with the discipline she exhibited in her workplace contributed to her rapid promotions, with time, she became a sales and marketing executive for a multinational firm in the city.
Margaret Wanjiru later went on to form her own business in the city excelling both as an entrepreneur and single mother to her two sons and one daughter.
Later Career and Politics
Margaret Wanjiru, later on, gave her life to Christ and became a born again Christain. In her quest to win more souls to the kingdom, she founded the Bishop of the Jesus Is Alive Ministries (JIAM), an international Christian organization with headquarters in Nairobi Kenya. She currently serves as the presiding bishop of the ministry.'Mama Na Kazi', as she is fondly called by her followers has been very actively involved with matters of national concern. In 2007, she was elected to represent the Starehe Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya under the Jubilee Party platform.
In 2008, she was appointed into the cabinet as an Assistant Minister for Housing.
