Dapo Abiodun was born on the 29th of May, 1960 to the family of Dr Emmanuel and Mrs Victoria Abiodun of Iperu-Remo in Ikenne Local Government of Ogun State. His parent's careers as teachers influeced his education, as they served in different parts of the then Western Region. In 1972, he attended Christ’s School Ado Ekiti, followed by St. Joseph’s College, Ondo in 1977, and then Ondo High School, in 1978.

He further gained admission to study Civil Engineering at the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University (then University of Ife) in Ile-Ife, Osun State, but later transferred to the Kennesaw State University in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, graduating in 1986 with a BBA in Accounting.

In recognition of his significant positive impacts and immense contributions to the development of the nation and humanity, Prince Abiodun has been awarded doctorate degrees by two reputable Nigerian institutions. In 2018, he was awarded a Doctor of Science in Business Development and Administration (Honoris Causa) Degree by the Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State and another Doctor of Finance (Honoris Causa) Degree by the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti.

Career

Prince Dapo Abiodun began his professional career as Cost Accountant with Glock Inc. USA, where he worked between 1989-1991. He then returned to Nigeria to embark on an entrepreneurship career. He has over the years, founded a number of businesses.

He has served as Chairman/Chief Executive of several reputable companies including; Heyden Petroleum Limited, Crestar Hydrocarbons Limited, Alarmnet and Innovative Ventures Limited, OMS-Heyden Exploration and Production Limited and First Power Limited.

In 2009, he got appointed as the Chairman, Oil and Gas Committee of Ogun State. He also served as the Chairman of Depot and Petroleum Product Marketers Association (DAPPMA) from 2012 till 2019.

In 2018, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Abiodun as the Chairman of Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). During the period he served in the commission, he led a number of reform initiatives that standardized and improved the business registration process in the country, leading to a higher ease-of-doing-business ranking for the country.

Political Career

In 1993, Prince Dapo Abiodun was elected a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the platform of the defunct United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP).

He is a founding member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, but defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC) after the 2015 general elections.

He contested for the Ogun East senatorial seat on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the 2015 Nigerian general elections but lost to the PDP candidate.

In 2019, he contested for the Ogu State gubernatorial elections under the APC platform and won. He was subsequently sworn in as Governor of Ogun State on 29th May 2019.

Personal Life

Prince Dapo Abiodun is happily married to Bamidele Abiodun and the union is blessed with five children, including the late Olugbenga Abiodun, a Nigerian DJ also known as DJ Olu.
Abiodun is a born again Christian and member of the Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministry. He once testified on how God helped him get into the office despite several opportitions that he faced.

Dapo Abiodun was in 2014, honoured by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan with the prestigious National Award of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (MFR).
