Kunle Afolayan was born on the 30th of September, 1974 to the family of Adeyemi Josiah Afolayan. His father Adeyemi Josiah Afolayan (aka Ade-Love) was also a popular Nollywood theatre and film director, and producer. Kunle's siblings, Kunle Afolayan, Tayo Afolayan, Gabriel Afolayan, Moji Afolayan and Aremu Afolayan are also film actors. He is also related to popular Nollywood star, Toyin Afolayan.
Kunle grew up in Lagos State, Nigeria, though he originally hails from Igbomina, Kwara State, Nigeria. After completing his primary and secondary education, he proceeded to higher institution, where he obtained a B.Sc degree in Economics. He also holds a Diploma in digital film-making from the New York Film Academy.

Kunle Afolayan started his entertainment career as a banker and part-time actor before he eventually ventured into a full-time entertainment career.
