Mary Njoku was born on the 20th of March, 1985 in Lagos State, Nigeria but she originally hails from Nsukka, Enugu State. After completing her primary education, she enrolled at Amuwo Odofin High School for her secondary education. She also schooled at the National College Bagada and Navy Town Secondary School.

Njoku also obtained a diploma in Computer Science before proceeding to the prestigious Lagos State University (LASU) where she obtained a degree in English Language. She also did a course on Producing: Movie Magic Budgeting & Schedule at the London Film Academy, United Kingdom.

Entertainment Career

Mary Njoku had a passion for acting from her childhood but started acting on stage while in secondary school. She joined the Nollywood industry at a very early age of 17 and debuted as an actress in the 2004 movie, 'Home Sickness' where she acted alongside Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha. The movie that however brought her to limelight was the 2011 Nollywood movie, 'Blackberry Babes'.

She also ventured into production and made her debut with the TV series 'Festac Town'. Subsequently, she produced 'Thy Will Be Done', 'Hazeezat', 'Nwanyioma', 'Husband of Lagos' and others.

Between 2011 and 2013, she produced iROKtv, a YouTube platform that featured interviews with Nigerian celebrities, as well as coverage of Afrobeats and Nollywood events. In 2015, Njoku became Chief Content Officer at IROKO Partners. 

In August 2013, Njoku founded the award-winning Lagos-based film house, ROK Studios. ROK has since its launch, produced over 540 films and 25 original TV series. In 2016, she launched ROK on Sky, a network airing across the UK and ROK on DSTV, a network airing across Africa. ROK Studios was in 2019, acquired by French television company Canal+ for an undisclosed amount.

The same year, Mary, alongside her business partners Jason Njoku and Bastian Gotter, launched a $2 million investment vehicle for Lagos-based Internet start-ups called Spark.
