Indimi had his early education at traditional Qur’anic school as it is the general practice of Muslim communities in Northern Nigeria. Even though he wasn't able to further his education at a formal institution because of financial issues, he still managed to learn how to read and write in the English Language.

Career

Mohammed Indimi started his business career at a very young age of 10. Then he normally followed his Dad to the market. Before he reached 16, he had already mastered the trade and became independent. He started his business with a 100 pounds loan he collected from his friend Alhaji Umar Tela.

As time went on, his business progressed and he decided to expand into selling of clothes. As this was during the Nigerian Civil War when getting goods into the Northern part of Nigeria was hard, Indimi devised new means by crossing the Cameroon border to buy ready-made clothes to sell.

In 1973, he ventured into yet another business of selling flours. During that period, there was a great shortage of flour in Maiduguri and the state government were importing and selling bags of flours to the locals at reduced rates.

While Maiduguri was in lack of flour, Sokoto had excess flours to sell so Indimi saw a great business opportunity ahead. He contacted the Chief Commercial Officer of the Ministry of Commerce for Sokoto State who was in charge of the sale, bargained and bought 50,000 bags of flour which he sold at Maiduguri, making huge profits from the transactions.

He further engaged in the buying and selling of industrial water pumps from Florida for the completion of a pumping station which was being built at the South Chad Irrigation Project during Olusegun Obasanjo’s first regime. The business also recorded huge success and he, in fact, built the first pump factory in Maiduguri within six years of running.

In 1990, Indimi got an oil prospecting license granted by the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida regime. He established an oil and gas firm named Oriental Energy Resources (OER). According to the official website, the company has expanded its portfolio and currently has three assets under development in offshore Nigeria. These include the Ebok Field (OML 67), Okwok Field (OML 67) and OML 115.
