Growing up wasn't so rosy for her as she had to move away from Kenya with her mother to Adelaide, Australia as South Sudanese refugees when she was just 6 years old.While in school at Adelaide, Akech was known as 'Mary' because the Australian teachers weren't able to pronounce her name.

Bior made her runway debut at a local fashion show, put together by her aunt. She, however, came into limelight after she was cast exclusively by Saint Laurent and walked the Spring/Summer 2017 show, subsequently signing to Elite Model Management in Paris.Since then, she has walked for several top brands like Versace, Valentino, Givenchy and Dior and also shot campaigns for Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, Fendi, Valentino and Moschino.
