Eyitayo Jegede is a Nigerian lawyer, politician and the PDP governorship candidate in the coming Ondo State elections.

While this is his first time contesting as governor, Jegede has been in the helm of affairs of the state for some years now. In 2009, he was appointed as the Hon. Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in the state by Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, the former Ondo State governor. Eyitayo Jegede Biography, Date Of Birth, Early Life, Family And Education

Eyitayo Jegede was born to the family of late  Chief Johnson Bosede, and Mrs C.O Jegede (née Asokeji) from Ipele town, near Owo in Ondo State, Nigeria. He began his early primary education at the St. Stephen’s “SA” Primary School Modakeke,”Ife”.

In 1973, he enrolled at the Aquinas College Akure, where he schooled until July 1978 when he proceeded to Christ's School Ado Ekiti from where he obtained his Higher School Certificate Education. During his days at  Aquinas College, Jegede served as the Senior Prefect and was also very active in sports activities. In fact, he served as the School Volleyball Captain both at Aquinas College, Akure and Christ School, Ado Ekiti between 1978 and 1980.

Jegede further gained admission to study law at the prestigious University of Lagos (UniLag). He was also very acting in sports activities during the period he was at UniLag and captained the University Volleyball team.

On completing his higher education, he got posted to Yola, Adamawa State for his National Youth Service Corps where he started his career as a legal practitioner. He qualified as a lawyer in 1984 after undergoing the One Year mandatory programme at the Nigeria Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.

Career and Politics

In 1992, Eyitayo Jegede got appointed a Notary Public by the Chief Justice of Nigeria and on 16th December 2008, got elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria. He established his own law firm, Tayo Jegede & Co in 1996 after over 12 years of working in the law firm of Murtala Aminu & Co. Yola. He headed the Tayo Jegede & Co in Abuja and Yola until 2009 when got appointed as the Chief Law Officer in Ondo State.

Eyitayo Jegede has also handled several top positions, including serving as the Chancellor of Anglican Communion of Jalingo, Taraba State. He was once the Chancellor of Anglican Dioceses of Yola and a member of Implementation Committee of American University, Yola, Adamawa State, as well as a member, Chairman Board of Governors, ABTI Academy International School and member, Board of Trustees, Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo-State.

He was a two-time chairman of the Adamawa state chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Eyitayo Jegede has served in the following capacities over the past decades:

• Coordinator and Chairman, Body of Attorneys General of the 36 States of the Federation.
• Member of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
• Member, Body of Benchers in Nigeria. Presently a Life Bencher.
• Member of the Legal Practitioners’ Disciplinary Committee in Nigeria.

Eyitayo Jegede was voted as the PDP governorship candidate on Monday, August 22, 2016, but Justice Okon Abang judgement issued on October 14, 2016, recognised Jimoh Ibrahim as the candidate of the PDP for the governorship of Ondo State.  On November 23, 2016, The Appeal Court pronounced Mr Jegede as the PDP's gubernatorial flag bearer.

Jegede  Eyitayo emerged the flag bearer of PDP Governorship Primary for Ondo State October 2020 election after polling a total of 888 votes, defeating the Deputy Governor
Agboola Ajayi who emerged the second runner-up with 657 votes.
